The Flanders Sportive 2016 on Saturday 2nd April, celebrates the 100th edition of the classic "tour of flanders" race held the following day.
There are already eleven members of the Club taking part this year, building on six of us taking part last year.
Three different distances 75k/134k or 254k.
Although we would recommend either the 75k/134k as the long ride is a flat, windy roll for some 120k before taking the same route as the middle distance and experience as taught us that this isn't either the prettiest or most enjoyable way to spend 8.5hrs in the saddle when the other two are a lot more fun.
Flanders cobbles sections roll over little climbs to combine both the fun and such classic climbs as:-
Kwaremont
Muur-Kapplemuur
Molenburg
Taaienburg
and the mighty Coppenburg
Registration for the event and insurance is as little as 33Euros
We're planning to head out from Saffron Walden mid morning on the friday driving straight to the event registration in Oudenaarde; before heading to our base Camp in Ghent late that afternoon. Breakfast will be served at 6.30am, we depart by 7.30am and drive to the outskirts of Oudenaarde before rolling 5k to the start and what will be a great five-six hours worth of riding before we head back to our Hotel; with stories to share and compare in the bar and at dinner. Up for around 10am the following morning we'll be taking the short car journey over to Kwaremont to watch both the men's and women's races pass us four times during the day (obviously sharing a few beers/hog roast/cycling festival/big screen/party and the company of the locals at a hidden location, a rather splendid place to be!) before a quick dash back to Ghent to watch the last hour unfurl on the TV in the bar. We leave the hotel mid morning on the monday, rather than get caught up in the weekend traffic heading back through the Eurotunnel arriving back in Walden by about 4pm..

Your more than welcome to join us if you wish and contact me for more information, whether it be just to join us at the start (there will be several groups based upon ability) or want to be with us for the whole weekend
